When taught in ELED 3226 about the Multigenre Project and then told that I would be creating my own, it wasn't very difficult for me to decide what topic I would be writing about. The birth of my son, becoming a parent, becoming a mother is a HUGE deal for me. I live and breathe for my baby, he is my every thought, my every waking moment is for him in some form or fashion. Needless to say, when something is constantly on your mind, it becomes the easiest topic to write about. As stressful as my life has become, with balancing parenting, school, a household and myself I have learned through creating this project that, "Hey, I'm not doing so bad after all". I have a lot, A LOT, going on and I am still here. I'm alive. I have a healthy boy, I'm getting through college and am nearly finished and have a roof over my head. I wanted this project to be something my son can one day read and look through so he could see all the hard work I've done, for Him. I love him and will always love him and I feel that this project deeply shows it.
In order to prepare myself for the project, I made a check list of the things that needed to be included, bottom line. Then , I decided what genres I wanted to include and then after that, any extras I already had compiled since being a mom. I also made a check list of the transitions I wanted to incorporate along with the pieces of writing. As I went through and added them to my weebly website, I checked them off. I flipped back and forth through the headings and pieced the pictures and quotes in the coordinating places that transitioned from each piece of work. I wanted for the most part everything to be in order of my parenting journey; beginning with my pregnancy, to the birth of my son and everything that followed after. It was as simple as that.
As a future writing teacher, I have learned how deep writing can truly be when you give students the 'power of choice'. I have had other projects going on at the same time while creating this particular one and have struggled greatly with completing them because of the strict format and prompt like essence they have. But with the MultiGenre Project there were no 'writer's blocks' or struggles. Everything flowed simply and elegantly from my thought process. I want to be able to give my future students the same 'power' and 'eagerness' to write as I had with creating this project. It has been a beautiful experience that I will share with my family, friends and most of all My Son.
